Your London Weekend Guide: 20-22 February 2026

By Emma Brown, London Local

Hello, lovely people! Emma here with your insider guide to making the most of this late February weekend in London. Whether you’re looking to meet new friends, explore the arts, or escape the city for some bracing coastal air, I’ve got you covered.

What’s the Weather Looking Like?

February in London is, well, February in London. Expect the usual mix of grey skies, the occasional drizzle, and temperatures hovering around 6-9°C. My advice? Layer up properly. I’m talking a good waterproof jacket, a cosy scarf, and perhaps an umbrella tucked into your bag (though us locals know it’s often more trouble than it’s worth in the wind). The good news is that February days are getting noticeably longer now, so you’ll have decent daylight until around 5:30pm.

Top Picks for This Weekend

Friday 20th February

🥂 Friday Drinks for Young Professionals Liverpool Street Station area

Kick off your weekend the proper way with this welcoming social gathering for young professionals. These meetups are brilliant for newcomers to London or anyone looking to expand their social circle. The Liverpool Street area is packed with excellent pubs and bars, so expect a lively atmosphere.

Insider tip: If the main venue gets too crowded (Friday nights around Liverpool Street can be absolutely heaving with City workers), the group often spills into nearby spots. The Counting House on Cornhill is a stunning converted banking hall worth checking out if you’re in the area early.

☢️🎬 COLD STORAGE - Film Screening Leicester Square

For something completely different, head to the heart of London’s cinema land for this intriguing film event. Leicester Square remains the spiritual home of British cinema, and there’s something rather special about watching films in this iconic location.

Practical bits: Leicester Square tube is on the Northern and Piccadilly lines. Arrive a bit early to grab a good seat and perhaps grab dinner beforehand. For pre-film bites, skip the overpriced tourist traps on the square itself and duck into Chinatown (literally a two-minute walk) for proper dumplings at places like Dumplings’ Legend.

Saturday 21st February

💃 Singles Party in Kings Cross | Ages 30 to 45 Drake & Morgan at King’s Cross, 6 Pancras Square

If you’re single and ready to mingle, this is your Saturday night sorted. Drake & Morgan is a gorgeous venue right in the heart of the regenerated King’s Cross area. The age-specific format means you’re likely to meet people at a similar life stage, which takes some of the awkwardness out of these things.

Local knowledge: King’s Cross has transformed dramatically in recent years. Arrive early and explore Coal Drops Yard for some window shopping (or actual shopping if you’re feeling flush). The architecture alone is worth seeing. For pre-event dinner, Barrafina in Coal Drops Yard does exceptional Spanish tapas, or Dishoom (just behind King’s Cross station) serves legendary Bombay-style food, though expect a queue.

🇮🇹 Italian Conversation Meetup Cittie of Yorke, Holborn

Fancy practising your Italian while enjoying a pint? This Saturday gathering at one of London’s most atmospheric historic pubs is perfect for language learners at any level. The Cittie of Yorke (yes, that’s the correct spelling) is worth visiting for the venue alone. It’s one of London’s most impressive pub interiors, with soaring ceilings and individual booths that feel like they’re from another era.

Emma’s tip: This pub gets busy, so arrive a touch early to appreciate the architecture and secure a spot. Their wine selection is surprisingly good if beer isn’t your thing.

Sunday 22nd February

🏖️ Frinton and Walton on the Naze Coastal Walk Meeting at Liverpool Street Station

This is my top pick of the weekend. There’s nothing quite like blowing away the cobwebs with a proper coastal walk, and this organised ramble takes you to one of Essex’s loveliest stretches of coastline. Walton-on-the-Naze is famous for its Naze Tower (a Georgian navigational landmark) and the fascinating fossil-rich cliffs. You might even spot some 50-million-year-old shark teeth if you’re lucky!

Practical information: You’ll be catching the train from Liverpool Street, so get an off-peak return to Walton-on-the-Naze (around £20-25). The journey takes roughly 90 minutes. Wear proper walking shoes (it will be muddy), bring layers, and pack a flask of tea. Trust me, a hot cuppa on a February beach hits different.

What to bring: Waterproof jacket, sturdy shoes, packed lunch or snacks, water, phone charger, and perhaps a small rucksack. There are cafés in Frinton and Walton, but options might be limited in February.

✏️ Free Sketch & Social at the V&A Victoria and Albert Museum, Cromwell Road

End your weekend with some creative inspiration at one of the world’s greatest museums of art and design. This free sketching session is perfect for all abilities, from complete beginners to seasoned artists. The V&A’s collections provide endless inspiration, from Renaissance sculptures to contemporary fashion.

Why I love this: The V&A is criminally underrated compared to the British Museum. Its café in the original refreshment rooms is one of the most beautiful places to have a coffee in London. Arrive early, grab a flat white, and explore before the sketching begins.

Practical bits: Free entry to the museum. Nearest tube is South Kensington (Piccadilly, Circle, and District lines). Bring your own sketchbook and pencils.

🇪🇸 Spanish-English Language Exchange Market Halls Paddington

Wrap up your Sunday with tapas, conversation, and new friends at this popular language exchange. Market Halls is a brilliant food hall concept with loads of different vendors, so you can grab whatever cuisine takes your fancy while practising your español.

Insider tip: Market Halls offers exclusive discounts for this group, so it’s a budget-friendly option too. Paddington has excellent transport links, making it easy to get home afterwards.

Quick Tips for the Weekend

  • Oyster vs Contactless: Just use your contactless bank card on the Tube. Same price, less faff.
  • Sunday Roast: If you’re not at an event, this is prime Sunday roast territory. Book ahead at any decent pub.
  • Museum Tip: Most major museums are free, but check for special exhibitions which usually charge.
  • Stay Warm: Pop into any Pret, Costa, or independent café to warm up between activities. No one judges you for nursing a single coffee for an hour.

Have a brilliant weekend, everyone! And if you spot me out and about,
